The Dell UltraSharp 1907FP is a 19-inch LCD monitor that provides better than average image quality and costs $369. It has a stylish design and adjustability that is usually found on much more expensive monitors.
The 1907FP has a small Y-shaped base, a brushed aluminum neck and a slim bezel. It is very flexible and you can tilt it backward and forward by 25 degrees. You can also swivel it 45 degrees to the left and right, adjust the height 5 inches and pivot between landscape and portrait orientations.
The neck slides on a track and makes adjustments easy and smooth. However, the ergonomics are not perfect, and you have to hold the base in place while adjusting the panel. The top-heavy monitor is prone to wobble if you make the smallest adjustment.
The monitor has DVI-D and analog signal inputs, an audio input and one upstream and two downstream USB ports. Two more downstream USB ports are provided behind the left bezel. Besides this, signal cables and USB cable is also provided, but there is no cable for the audio jack. The optional 10-watt Dell Sound Bar speakers cost $29 and come with an audio cable.
The onscreen menu is quite easy to navigate, but there is no dedicated button for exiting the sub menus. There is no contrast adjustment when connected via DVI-D. Menu buttons that also serve as quick-launch contrast and brightness keys have not been provided.
The text looks sharp and is easy to read when displayed on the 1,280 x 1,024 screen. The grays have a red tint at the default settings of the monitor, which can be removed by adjusting the color temperature settings.
The relatively fast 8-millisecond pixel-response rate provides smooth movement during DVD playback and gaming. However, there may be some digital noise and blocks of color during DVD playback. The viewing angle of the display is not very good and there may be shifts in color and intensity, depending on the angle of the panel.
The 1907FP comes with a three-year warranty on the parts, labor and backlight. The warranty can be extended to four years for $29 and to five years for $49. The Dell website offers a support form, e-mail support, a FAQ section and community forums. Drivers can be downloaded from the website, which also has a searchable knowledge base.
The Dell UltraSharp 1907FP has a stylish design and offers flexibility with good performance. It is a good choice if you want to buy a monitor in the budget display segment.
