The Dell UltraSharp 2001FP is a 20-inch LCD monitor that was originally sold as a part of the Dell Dimension XPS gaming system. It is now available separately and has lots of multimedia features to offer. It has a fast 16-millisecond pixel-response time, extra USB ports and is highly adjustable.
The response time may be the fastest you will find on a 20-inch monitor and it will satisfy all but the most dedicated graphics users. However, hard-core gaming enthusiasts may prefer other top of the line monitors that are presently available.
The UltraSharp 2001FP has a stable silver base and a thin black bezel. It is highly adjustable and can be tilted 5 degrees forward and 20 degrees backward. It can be swiveled by 45 degrees to the left and right and the height can be adjusted by 5 inches.
The UltraSharp 2001FP can also be pivoted from landscape to portrait mode. Pivot software does not come with the monitor and you have to download it from the Dell website.
A button is provided to release the panel from the neck and to connect it to a VESA wall or arm mount or to transport or store it. The onscreen menu is easy to navigate by means of three buttons on the bezel and there is a fourth button for selecting the signal input.
The UltraSharp 2001FP is compatible with PCs and Macs. It has lots of connections and accepts both digital and analog video signals. The picture-in-picture capability of the monitor can be used by connecting additional video sources, like a camcorder, though its composite and S-video inputs.
It also has four downstream USB 2.0 ports that can be used for connecting a keyboard, a joystick or any other USB-driven peripheral. A loop is provided on the back to hold the cables.
The text in Web pages, documents and spreadsheets is easy to read, but there may be some minor faults in the grayscales. There are also some irregularities in blocks of colors.
There is some loss of finer details and visible noise, but the streaking and ghosting are not too bad. In spite of its 16-millisecond pixel-response time, the performance is not much better than comparable LCD monitors. Still, the image quality should satisfy most users since flaws like this can be found on most LCD monitors.
The UltraSharp 2001FP comes with a standard three-year warranty on parts, labor and the backlight. Toll-free technical support is available round the clock and a complete manual that includes troubleshooting tips is provided on a CD.
The Dell UltraSharp 2001FP offers image quality and multimedia features that are good enough for all but the most demanding graphic artists and gamers.
