The ViewSonic VX2025wm is a stylish 20-inch monitor that is great for light graphic and design purposes. It offers good sound with superb gaming performance and for $411 it is one of the most affordable 20-inch wide-screen monitors.
With a two-tone silver and black color scheme, the ViewSonic VX2025wm looks quite striking. It has five onscreen menu control buttons and a large base, which also has the two-tone color scheme. The base keeps the monitor steady, but if you tilt it too far back, it lifts off the table.
The screen tilts the usual 20 degrees back and 5 degrees forward, but it does not swivel or pivot and the height is not adjustable. The screen is almost five inches above the top of the desk, which suits most users, though it does not have much adjustability.
DVI-D and VGA ports are provided on the back, with an audio-in connection for the two built-in 1-watt speakers, which are hidden under the panel. The speakers sound better than most built-in speakers and have enough volume for a small room. Two snap-off plastic covers hide the input ports and the cords. No headphone jack is provided on the monitor.
The onscreen menu is easy to navigate and there are two buttons for adjusting the volume that can also be used to navigate through the menu. There are two other buttons that can be used to launch the onscreen menu quickly and to change quickly between digital and analog input. This can be useful if you often work with two computers.
At its native resolution of 1,680 x 1,050 the ViewSonic VX2025wm displays clear and sharp text. The grayscale tests show even fade, though there may be some signs of purple in the darker segments. Colors are accurate and look bright and clear, though red may appear slightly orange when it is very bright.
The VX2025wm has quite a quick 8-millisecond pixel-response rate. Clear images with bright colors and average noise levels can be seen during DVD playback. Gaming performance is good with sharp images and lots of detail in light areas. There is no ghosting or streaking. The ViewSonic support website offers an e-mail support form, driver downloads, white papers and an interactive Q&A knowledge portal. Toll-free support is also available around the clock.
The ViewSonic VX2025wm comes with a three-year warranty, which is the industry standard. It covers the parts, labor and the backlight. The warranty can be extended to four years for $63 and to five years for $90. With Express Exchange, a replacement unit will be shipped to you within 48 hours. It costs $74 for one year and $105 for two years.
If adjustability is not the prime consideration, the VX2025wm is undoubtedly the best choice in its category.
