Comparing Online Storage Sites

So you’ve decided to invest in some online storage. You’ve made a wise decision – computer crashes, power surges, and two year olds are all common disasters that can turn a computer from an efficient piece of equipment to a hated information burner. By backing up your data, you can rest easy even with an axe through your hard drive, because you know your pictures of your great aunt are still safe and sound in their online storage nest.

The problem, of course, is deciding which online storage service to use. When you type ‘online storage’ or ‘online file storage’ into your search engine of choice you’ll come up with dozens of options, all of which have their own special strengths and weaknesses.

The key here is to know what you’re looking for before you begin. Do you need a lot of space? Four or five dollars a month for a hundred gigabytes is common. Do you just need room for an album or two of pictures? Many online storage services offer picture storage for free. What kind of interface do you want? All of these things are important considerations when deciding which online storage site to use.

Regardless, you’ll end up with your data far safer than it would otherwise be. Even if your computer starts smoking more than a ‘40s newspaperman your data will be safe. Online file storage is generally cheap or even free, and easy to sign up for, so there’s really no excuse – online storage is not only easy, it’s also just plain common sense.
