Using Online File Storage

At first blush, ‘online file storage’ seems like one of those technogeek words that real people never really get involved with. Online file storage? What does that really even mean? Of course, it’s those of us who aren’t technogeeks who could really use the services provided by the dozens of online file storage teams on the web.

Online file storage is meant as a backup. If you keep your pictures and documents backed up on an online file storage server, you can rest easy when your desktop starts smoking and emitting noxious odors, because you know that the important thing – your data – is safe and sound in its online home. Rarely over five dollars a month, its well worth the peace of mind it brings. You can often even get online file storage for absolutely free.

Using online file storage is simple. Some services include an upload / download interface – you simply choose which folders and files you want to back up, click a button, and the service does the rest. Other online storage services function like virtual hard drives, letting you copy files to or from disk ‘G:’ or ‘H:’ as long as you’re online and connected to your service’ network.

Realistically, bad things will happen. If you keep all of your information in one place, there’s a good chance that at some point you’ll lose it completely. Putting your precious information into a backup online means that your data will be safe no matter what happens to your desktop. It’s just plain common sense.
