palmOne may have become Palm but it's still a strong brand name
palmOne has been the market leader in the field of handhelds ever since it launched its first PDA under the brand name Palm 1000. Today the company has been rechristened as Palm but it continues to be a byword for all handheld computing.
One reason for the dramatic growth of palmOne is the wide spectrum of advertising methods used by the company to market its innovative products, both offline and online. This included authorizing a select group of retailers and resellers to market its products. The strategy paid off because the company acquired a large market base in a short time.
Interestingly, Palm when it was knows as palmOne, used a unique color scheme. The words palm were emblazoned in deep red while a bright, striking orange was used for "One". The company now uses orange as its brand color.
The Palm's products are available under three clear heads: Palm Treo Smartphones, Palm LifeDrive mobile managers and Palm handheld computers. Besides this, Palm also markets a range of software solutions and accessories.
The Palm products come with several features. These include Personal Information Management software, infrared beaming capabilities, calculators, note-taking applications, and games. Besides this, the palmOne products also include features like high resolution color screens, wireless capabilities (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and cellular), MP3 software and digital cameras.
Palm has made its name with its handhelds marketed under the brand names of Palm Pilots, Palm Zire and Palm Tungstens. These handhelds, powered by Palm software, enable customers to manage their appointments, maintain phone and address lists and keep track of their to-do lists. Customers can also use the Palm handhelds for storing MP3 files, digital photos and video clips. Another useful function that these handhelds perform is the creation of Word, Excel and PowerPoint compatible files.
Treo smartphone is another well-known palmOne product. It has all the features of a full-fledged mobile phone, and also provides users with access to e-mail and messaging facilities plus access to the Internet. Another advantage of the Treo products is that they come equipped with an organizer that enables users to maintain their appointment and to-do lists. Treo smartphones are compatible with both GSM/GPRS and CDMA/1XRTT networks, giving customers a wide choice when it comes to selecting carrier networks. The Treo smartphones also come with a QWERTY keyboard that allows customers the advantage of fast and efficient data entry. Even with one hand.
The Palm LifeDrive Mobile Managers are meant for those who want to carry their office in their pocket. They come with 4GB of hard-drive storage, a large 320x480 high-resolution color screen, and wireless access through built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technologies, enabling users to store large files.
It is not surprising that Palm has literally become a generic name in the field of handhelds.
